Mammut says:Â
Hiking shoe with cutting-edge technology
The Sapuen High GTX is the right choice on all kinds of terrain. Mammut Flextron® technology supports the natural rolling movement of the foot and thus more efficient use of energy when hiking and mountaineering, while Mammut Georganic® 3D technology guarantees maximum comfort. All components in contact with the foot are anatomically shaped with great precision while the classic tongue construction offers easy entry. Optimized for hiking: a Vibram rubber blend for secure grip on outdoor surfaces and a sole design that supports self-cleaning. The waterproof GORE-TEX membrane guarantees dry feet.
Our Verdict
Mammut’s Sapuen High GTX boot is a competitively priced boot that offers a range of features that make it idea for most hikes and rambles whether trekking in hills or low level country and costal walks.Â
The Sapuen High uses Georganic® 3D technology in order to maximise the comfort and support that you feel secure within the boot but also all-day comfort. this was particularly evident in the heel cushioning which holds the heel really well and prevents excess foot movement that can lead to rubbing and blisters. I found that despite my narrow heels, I was correctly supported within the heel cup and I didn’t feel like my heel was going to slip or move no matter what the ground. As for the fit of the rest of the boot, I found it to be very good for me across the toe box but i am generally a regular width fit. So maybe for someone who is a wider fit then this may feel a bit tight, it is a fit for someone with a regular to narrow fitting foot (which is most of the population).Â
The sole unit of the Sapuen is a Vibram outsole that has a good tread depth that is suitable for a range of terrains, with a good level of grip. The 3D Memo Foam cushioned midsole to provide a good level of support as well as comfort and overall, the sole unit doesn’t feel too stiff underfoot so is suitable for entry level walkers as well as the more experienced. The rocker on the sole unit is perfect for stability on steep ground, the fact that the rubber of the outsole extends into a toe cap is a great feature as it provides really good protection to the front of the boot.Â
The addition of the Gore-Tex liner provides that level of security from the outside elements getting in as long as the uppers are well cared for and reproofed regularly.Â
The Sapuen High is a very good choice for those that are looking for their first pair of quality walking boots as well as those more experienced walkers looking for a good all-rounder.Â
